The enchanting 'Falling Stars'
or what we better know as 'Tootha huva Tara' is a
source of delight for people of all ages. Many truly believe
that if they see a falling star and make a wish, it will certainly
come true. Whether or not that this belief is true, falling
stars have always been a source of wonder - what are they and where
do they come from?
In reality, they are
not 'stars' at all. They are 'meteors', that is
small, solid bodies that travel from outer space into the earth's
atmosphere. They are small, broken pieces of comets
and when they enter our atmosphere, they leave behind a train of
light and this makes them appear to be like stars. As we know, when
two objects are rubbed against one another, heat is produced or 'friction'
and sometimes, a little portion of this heat is given off as light.
So when the meteors are passing through air, they are rubbed
against the air particles and this causes the bright light. |
