Add
color to your lives
Love colors? Try your hand at painting. If you do not know where to
start, do a little homework and hunt around for some classes. A lot of
vacation classes are held in every city. With an expert guiding you, you
can produce tangible evidence of your creativity by turning out sketches
and paintings that can adorn the walls of your home. Watercolors are a
good medium to experiment with, and some paper, brushes and a set of
paints coupled with a good imagination and some advice should set you on
the right path. For the more adventurous there are oil paintings to dabble
in. Compared to watercolors, there is more expense involved in oil
paintings. So choose accordingly after giving it due thought. Bright and vibrant oil colors painted imaginatively and
enthusiastically on canvas, wood or even walls for that matter can enliven
dull corners. If black and white fascinates you try your hand at charcoal
painting. The range of effects that skillful and deft strokes of the hand
can create with a small black piece of chalk can give immense satisfaction
to the artist. As you try to reproduce the style of
great artists of yore, the paintings you create will surely add that
mystical touch to the place they adorn.
Crafty
ideas
In case you
are inclined towards craft there are several new skills that can be learnt
during vacations. Mosaic paintings, nib paintings, candle making, card
making, stained glass painting, sand painting, fabric painting, plaster
casting, foil art, calligraphy, embroidery, pottery, ….. these
are just a few examples, there are a variety of options to choose from.
Vacation classes are held in many places. However do be careful to find
out the cost involved in each course. Some places charge only a nominal
amount for teaching the skill but there are hidden costs involved like
purchase of material needed. So
it is important to find out whether such classes fit comfortably into your
budget.
Musical
moods
If
it is music that your soul yearns for do something about it during the
vacations. While music is a vast ocean that cannot be crossed even if a
whole lifetime is devoted to it, one can always learn something by devoting
some time to it. There are various forms of music and each one is a vast
world in itself. But do not be disheartened, it never hurts to take a
small foray into this world. Realizing this short-term music appreciation, classes have
been structured and are held in many places. This would be ideal, as it
would help you appreciate whatever you hear. And if you have had some
initial training in singing and can carry a tune, then there is no end to
what you can learn in a couple of months. As per where your interest lies
you could learn whatever is possible in the limited time that you have,
after all something is better than nothing.
Defend
yourself
It is a mean
world out there, it would not be a bad idea to pack in some tricks for
self defense. Go in for some judo or karate classes. However do keep in
mind that these are skills that take some time to develop and you need to
keep up regular practice too.
Playtime
Just
the right time to pick up some tips and tricks for playing sports like
table tennis, lawn tennis,
baseball,
football
or even cricket. The double advantage
here is that this is the most enjoyable way to maintain optimal physical
fitness. Honing your skills in chess would also be a good idea, it is
after all good exercise for the brain. And if at the end of the vacation
if you are a better player you stand chances of being selected for the
college team in the sport of your choice.
Beat
the heat
Just the
thing to beat the heat is lolling around in water, and while you are there
learn how to swim. In case you already know how to, then spend time
perfecting your technique, pick up new strokes, increase your stamina by
doing more laps and have fun all at the same time. As swimming is a
lifesaving skill it would be a good idea to add it to your repertoire of
skills. Several points need to be considered while choosing a place to
swim. One golden rule especially for those who venture into the sea is to
never swim alone, always take someone along. And if you have access to a
pool, ensure that you do take adequate safety precautions here too. Things
to be considered - no diving if the pool is not deep enough, stay close
to the edge if not an expert swimmer or pool depth is more than your height,
and of course have a friend along if you are not an expert swimmer.
It won’t be long before you become one though, the trick is to
relax and enjoy the water, that way swimming takes care of itself!
Are
you the outdoors type?
If
so then consider forming a group of like-minded people and go trekking.
Several popular places for trekking abound in every state of the country.
Barring the politically sensitive areas, any other place can be chosen.
This would be a good exercise in teamwork while enjoying what you love
doing - just being out of doors!
